Wheel of Fortune! - Homemade costumes for kids
Costume type:  Costumes for Kids
Categories:Halloween Costumes, Movie and TV Show Costumes

This homemade costume for kids entered our 2011 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Lori, the 'Wheel of Fortune!' costume creator:

This is a picture of my son and daughter dressed as Pat and Vana from Wheel of Fortune! Both of them just love watching the show, and that's how the idea came to be. Other than the wig, these costumes are 100% homemade. Their grandmother made Vana's dress out of an old gold tablecloth! My husband, Jeff, constructed the puzzle grid out of a lightweight plastic material and it was fastened to our daughter with straps that went through her dress. The wheel is made of the same material. The rest of it involved a LOT of sticky back glittered foam and letters from a craft store. The spin actually spins just like the real thing. Hope you like it!

I love this and have kids who love this idea too. How did you make the wheel spin, if you don't mind me asking?

WOW - awesome - not only how did you get the wheel to spin but what type of plastic did you use??

Courtney & Heather, The material was the hollow or honeycomb plastic sheet that you make yard signs out of. Most quick sign type businesses will sell you sheets or may have some scrap around. I cut two wheels the same size and put a bolt in the center so the two would spin on each other. The back wheel strapped to my son and was basically stationary and the front one spun freely.
