A word from Latoyia, the 'Queen of Hearts' costume creator:

I am the Queen of Hearts. Bow down to me!"

The idea to make this beautiful costume came from me browsing through the website. I love queens and princesses with their majestic looks, so I looked in that direction, and I stumbled upon beautiful majestic queen costume - that was VERY expensive... But I wanted this costume! Then I thought, why not make it!
I used red and black Velveteen material and my mother's bedroom satin comforters that was PERFECT (SSHHH! She still hasn't figured it out yet..!) I based it off of a corset pattern with straps for the bodice, and a skirt pattern for the skirt! I also made and attached a petticoat to go with the skirt to help structure and poof it out. I used a gown pattern to make the long "skirt tail" and attached it with elastic (which is tucked under the bodice to hide elastic). And since it's not attached to the main skirt, I can have a second look by not wearing the long skirt! The red hearts were cut out of red velveteen material and pressed directly onto the bodice with double faced interfacing, and I attached a zipper in the back of the bodice for easy access of getting into it. I used the big collar piece from the same gown pattern and attached it to the white straps. I decided that I liked the collar down, so I left it with that. It took me about a month and a half, including trial and error, to complete this costume, and spent little over $40 (since I saved a lot with mom's comforters)! I finish the costume with red curly hair, net stockings, studded boots, a beautiful crown, and did my make-up to make her believable! Don't I look like THE Queen of Hearts? Better be careful to what you say, or I'll have your head!

I had many kinds of comments on my work! Some was gasping how beautiful I looked and how they loved my costume and makeup. Some little girls saw me as a princess! And I absolutely adore princesses. Lots of people asked for my picture, especially with their little ones. It was a very fun experience and I'm happy with the work I put into this costume.
