A word from Chad, the 'Pyramid Head & Claudia Wolf' costume creator:

my name is Chad, and i am wearing pyramid head this year. my wife Julie is wearing Claudia Wolf, my combatant in the movie "silent hill".
Claudia Wolf is a mutation from ordinary human when she is challenged to show her "true colors" when confronted. her skin is burnt away, and metal blades pierce her head..causing her anger to be revealed on the outside. her attempts to kill the star of the movie are thwarted by pyramid head, and an all out battle begins.
pyramid head is the manifestation of evil, who keeps balance in the world of "silent hill" destroying those who upset the balance, or are up to no good. he is believed to be a "split personality" of another character that is trapped in "silent hill" from the comics,& video games.
the how to: well, Claudia's head is the main focal point, my wife has spent a few years working with liquid latex and decided to try her character using a morph mask and layering with latex sheets and brushing latex to create the torn flesh look. we built up the blade impacts with molding sand then encased it in latex to give it structure.the blades were made from 3/16" thick masonite, carved and molded to her face with mask on. my wife then used swimming goggles with black mesh(no glass) to create the deep impressions and to allow her eyelashes/eyes to move freely, but appear to be deeply set back. from there, the outfit was changed a bit from the movie, my wife not wanting to be nearly naked, covered more skin with a leather corset and leather shorts with chain attachments. we made latex sheets(on a cookie sheet) and used medical tape to hold rings on her skin to give the pierced look of tearing flesh.
pyramid head is quite large so i used a pair of snowboard boots(to keep ankles secure), screwed 6-2x4 blocks and a oversized pair of "crocs" to achieve my 7'4" height. a used aviator suit for pants with stitched leg covers, and a large swatch of leather was cut to become the "butcher smock". from here up, we bought a "muscle chest" outfit at the local store and began layering with latex sheets until the body looked washed out and decaying. this gave me a larger chest feature, and kept me from freezing on a cold halloween night! then, the helmet.
this was not the easiest thing to create. using mental references, and google images, i crafted the helmet first out of foam-core posterboard (perfect template material)then created the final design in 3/16" Masonite. using soft pine, i merged them together with wood glue and 1 1/4" pin nails to strengthen. the sides are handmade wood dowels to appear as bolts, then screwed on to the Masonite. using a spade bit, i drilled around these bolts to give sight openings and covered it using mesh screen. the floor plate in the helmet is drilled open for maximum floor viewing so i wouldn't trip along the way. then, every piece was painted using a mix of colors to give the rusted iron, decaying world colors it needed. then the blade i carry is different from the movie, he drags around a 7'knife, but i needed a walking staff, so i created a battle axe of sorts. 7'4" tall (matching me) its a broom handle, plastic sword coverings, and a masonite head cut to be double sided. reinforced and carved to appear "battle tested".
