A word from Brittany, the 'Beetlejuice' costume creator:

I made this Beetlejuice costume for my almost 4 year old son, Paxton. He wanted to be a ghost and since I grew up in the 90s, I thought Beetlejuice would be a good scary ghost-like costume. I came across a couple of pictures and costumes for sale but I wanted to see how I could do one less costly and just as cute! First thing I did was use a black suit jacket and black pants that he had, marked off lines using painters tape on the pants and just the chest portion of the jacket. I then used 4 cans of white fabric spray paint to spray the white lines ($13). While spraying I did put wax paper inside the pants and the jacket to prevent any bleeding through. After both front and back were done I moved to the arms of the suit and masked off lines going side to side, front and back and sprayed white fabric paint. I let the suit dry for a couple of days before removing the tape and when I did it gave it that sort of grungy look from
Where some of the tape was stuck onto the lines but it was all white still. I then used some extra black fabric that I had laying around and cut a straight piece with a diagonal bottom. Then cut another piece into two shapes to make it look like a bow tie. I hot glued the two bow tie looking pieces to the straight piece and after it dried the hot glue gave it just a couple of grayish marks which I left. To complete the shirt I used a Velcro strip ($2) and Velcroed the tie onto a white button down shirt he had. The hair was a bit of a problem as I didn't like the huge straight out wigs they were selling so I settled for a joker one that my sisters boy used last year and I used temporary white and gray hair color spray ($3) to change the color of the wig. There was still some purple and greenish colors in it but I thought it looked good enough. The last part was the makeup and I had white and black face cream from my costume, black eyeliner and black lipstick, and bought a mossy green color face paint ($2) and used a black sponge that had little holes in it for the graveyard look with moss on his forehead and around his lips. He had so many compliments on this outfit and everyone was asking about Beetlejuice so here it is! My cost on this entire costume was around $20 total! I hope you love it as much as we did :) thanks for letting me
Share! Oh one more thing, to make his belly pop a little bit just like the tea Beetlejuice I used fiberfill (stuff used to fill pillows) and stuck some under his white undershirt and his pants held that part in :)
