A word from Lori, the 'Minnesota Vikings Quarterback' costume creator:
I had stopped in a Goodwill to see if anything would spark up an idea for a costume and found this mini-size football helmut, it was made like a authentic one with chin guard too & it was only 99 cents. I don't know too much on sport teams, especially football so when I got home I asked my husband what football team has purple & he said the Minnesota Vikings. I thought this would be cute as a costume for my cat Mittens.
Football Field.....I used cardboard for the ground & covered that with green felt type fabric, then i measured & cut 11 white strips of felt type material to use for each yard and 2 long one for each side going other direction.
(hot glued all material step by step for each area)
Then i used pipe cleaners & braded them together to design the main frame for the goal posts, and then i hot glued yellow felt to the pipe cleaners.
Once i had the Y all done i added to the bottom of them purple pipe cleaners i braided together to the bottom of goal posts & hot glued them to each end of cardboard field.
I then took yellow pipe cleaners & bent each one for each # on yard lines & cut and put little white line under the numbers & hot glued all to the green fabric.
(only on one side since mittens would be in middle)
Football....I bought at Michaels (.99)
Well i took her in Petsmart to do the trick or treats there & have her picture taken, not only did the staff love it all but each & every person who we saw that it was a cute idea. Most people were in AWW because it's so unnatural for a cat.
I really enjoyed making this costume & i think Mittens enjoyed it too, not just for wearing it but for all the attention she got. We had rescued her almost 2 years ago and i had no idea how she would react, but she did great, she has great big round eyes which made her look like she was ready to run & win the game.
As i said before i made this all by hand.
Some of the material I had at home (left overs from prior costumes) but the prices for other items to make this were..... .99 mini football, .99 mini helmut, .50 ribbon,1.00 tshirt to cut up, 2.00 green felt type, 2.49 for bag of pipe cleaners, .69 for yellow felt, 2.00 more glue sticks.....everything cost under $12.00
