Power Sword!!

This homemade costume for adults entered our 2012 Halloween Costume Contest.
Growing up, my hero was always Jason, the Red Ranger from "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers." Seeing how this year is the 20th anniversary of the show, I KNEW I had to do this costume! I started this in February and created the helmet using expensive molding clay. Once It was finished, I covered with high-quality resin that gives it a fiberlass feeling and coats the helmet. I used a visor from a motorcycle helmet and glued it to the inside of the helmet.
In order to make the sword, I bought a 42" toy sword and cut off the t-bone section towards the bottom and stuck the sword through a giant ball of clay. I then molded the clay to match the exact design from the show. Once it was dry, I sanded it down and painted it to match the designs from "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers."
For the morpher and Blade Blaster, I owned these as a child, so no work was needed for these except for TV accurate stickers I found online.
For the boots, belt, and gloves I just bought a very thick material for the red diamonds and used a strong faux leather to create the wrappings on the arms, the main parts of the boots, and the belt. I used fabric paint to create the black lines on the belt.
Finally, to create the suit, I bought a plain lycra body suit and sewed in white lycra diamonds on top of the costume. I think I did a pretty stellar job matching everything to the TV show from when I was a child and I felt like a kid all over again. This is what Halloween is all about!! It's Morphin Time!!
