This homemade costume for men entered our 2014 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Emanuel, the 'Jerome from Martin TV Show' costume creator:

I'm wearing this costume, and this character is one of many played by Martin Lawrence on his show Martin from the 90s. First you'll need to find a wig that has a big curl and not small ones like the clown wigs. Then go to any kids' toy section and find funny looking rings, necklaces, and fake gold tooth teeth. I also found a phone that looks like the retro cell phones.

For the outfit, I went to a thrift shop and found an old looking sweatsuit, and white leather loafers for real cheap. Go to any arts and crafts store to get the iron on letters, and the costume is complete.

Good luck!I'd say go to the Thrift Store first and find what you can. After that it's smooth sailing.

My boy friend trying to find something like this and I don't no where to start.

Hey Elaine. Follow my instructions above. The first place you want to go is the thrift shop. We have 2nd Ave here in Philadelphia, and it was really easy to find the shoes and clothes for low prices.

Also guys for the Necklaces you can make those as well. I say an arts and crafts store will help fill in the blanks with the jewelry and accessories if you don't luck up at the dollar store.

Having a hard time finding a suitable wig. You remember the brand / style of the wig you got?

#11 comment by Emanuel October 25, 2015

Deangelo, you have to get one from a beauty supplies store because the clown ones you usually find are too afro-like. Martin basically used a woman's wig for this character with a bigger curl you can comb into shape.
