This homemade costume for women entered our 2017 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Ani, the 'Impa from Hyrule Warriors' costume creator:

I am wearing the costume and made it myself. (with a little sewing help from mum!) The character I am dressed as is one of my favourite characters Impa, from a video game series called The Legend of Zelda. This idea and design in particular came from the game Hyrule Warriors.

The wig is a lace front wig which I have styled myself with 2 small french braids from the front leading into a bun at the back and a section of loose hair at the front threaded with beads made from worbla. The Armour is made entirely using EVA Foam paint and hot glue, except for the chest piece which is made with Worbla and foam and attached with leather straps. The blue sleeveless kimono top and trousers are separate items sewn with blue fabric and designs painted on and ribbon trim. The tube top underneath is made with medical bandages sewn together. The scarf has red thread and beads hand sewn on and the shoes were bought from ebay. I am also wearing red contact lenses and latex elf ear prosthetics which were also bought online.

This costume overall took 2 entire months to make! I was working on it constantly because I had a very small time frame to get it done as I wanted to wear it for an event! The two months i spent making this were very stressful tiring and isolating but in the end it was all worth it!

This costume was such a bit challenge for me to make as it was my first time making armour of any sort and styling a lace front wig. In general I had to work with a lot of new materials and power tools that I've never used before!

Although a little difficult to walk around with all that armour on, I had a lot of fun wearing this costume and being in character. It was actually quite funny when approaching my friends, waddling around and struggling to bend over to pick up things from the floor because of my restricted movement haha. I definitely plan to keep this costume and wear it again, and I actually want to add more to it and upgrade it to a higher standard, maybe figure out a way for me to have more mobility in it.

I'd also like to thank my friends Amanda Riley and Chloe Simmonds for taking the photos of me in my finished costume at the event!
