A word from April, the 'Walking Pop Art Comic Strip' costume creator:

I had been wanting to do a pop art themed costume for awhile so I finally made the leap to try it out. I knew the basic makeup concept thanks to a few Google searches and Youtube tutorials and my original goal was to go Pop-glam and call it a day. We do a Haloween costume contest at work every year so I figured this would be perfectly work appropriate and fun. The night before the costume contest I felt like I needed to do something extra and all I kept thinking about was how do I make myself come to life comic-book style. I had an empty box and construction paper and the idea hit me. I painted the outside of the box black to create the comic strip effect. Inside, I painted dark blue and out of black construction paper, I cut out black building shapes. From there, I took white paper and used a yellow highlighter to color it and cut out those squares to add to the buildings and give it that classic comic book background. As I did this, my thought process progressed as went. So as I tried on the box, I thought about how much I wanted more of a dramatic effect. So in the top corner of the box, I actually added a light. I took one of those head strap light that people use when bike riding or doing handy work, cut off the strap and hot glued it to the top corner so while I was in the box, it gave more of a dramatic comic effect. Lastly, I created silly thought bubbles relevant to my job and I actally added velcro to the back of the papers so I could swith out the commentary. It was a funny effect and a huge hit at work and outside of work! This in total cost be about $10.00 if that given I had the box, the construction paper and realistically I just had to buy the light which was only 4.00 and the makeup I used which was about 5.00. Such a fun costume! It'll be hars to beat this one next Haloween!
