A word from Jami, the 'Tron Light Cycle' costume creator:

My son, Andrew, as Sam Flynn from Tron Legacy. The idea came from my nephew who asked me to build a light cycle for him. I did research for months and looked up everything I could about almost everything (I knew nothing about everything I had to do for this project). I used a mini bike and made a frame around it out of pvc pipes to help give it the shape. I used trash cans for the hub less wheels. I made hula-hoops around the trash can to help keep its shape and added skateboard wheels underneath to help with the movement and so it would not put strain on the front. After months of youtube videos on how to fiberglass, I attempted to fiberglass! The bike is made out of FOAM, duct tape, cardboard, plastic mesh, foil and more foam! To get the plastic look, I coated it 3 times with a glue water mix. I then primed and painted it and then used a high gloss finisher. The lights are vinyl tubes frosted with glass frosting spray paint. I used a smaller semi transparent tube inside that and then feed the EL wire thru that. It looked just like the neon flex lights that are very cool but cost a lot. The front wheels do not have the tube inside the tube because I didn't have time (I put the lights on 30 min before the parade we were in). I was attempting a "fake" engine for each side and was almost done but due to time and money did not get to finish. I did all of this inside my very small apartment. Mostly my kitchen! I have no garage. And I live on the second floor. Carrying this thing by myself down the stairs was the hardest part of this whole adventure! But the praise my son and I got in our towns parade and the fact that my son won 3rd prize made this whole thing worth it.
