National Geographic Cover: Afghan Girl Costume

This is my Halloween costume for 2013. I always want to do something different and I like to represent famous images that people will recognize. This National Geographic cover photographed by Steve McCurry is world famous and it turned out to be a really big hit downtown during the costume crawl in Orlando.

I made everything myself: I ordered non-glare Plexiglas, designed the exact table of contents from the original issue in Photoshop, then I had a vinyl transfer made. I applied the lettering myself and then painted the border with yellow cadmium acrylic paint. I bought a cheap wig, the cloth and did the wrap myself. A friend helped me apply the makeup to five myself a bit of a tan. That's it! People really enjoyed it and I had a lot of fun wearing it!
