This homemade costume for women entered our 2015 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Linda, the 'Medusa Queen' costume creator:

I had always wanted to be Medusa one of my favorite characters from Mythology. I needed to really think the head piece through before I even attempted it. Wanting the head piece to be fairly light in weight, I decided to use cyberlox crinoline and wire as well as some store bought fabric snakes. I carved some of the mouths using Styrofoam and used toothpicks for the fangs. Some acrylic paint as well to add to the effect.

I inserted wire into each cyberlox and then glued each one to a large fabric headband. The wires helped hold the snakes up and allowed for bending and shaping. For the victims head I turned to "stone", I spray painted a foam male head with gray textured paint. My costume was tweeked with gold accents and glitter and some added snake jewelry. I really enjoyed making this whole costume come to life from scratch, and got huge raves from many trick or treaters!!

Beautiful Job. ( or should I say SCARY / UGLY job). I got stuck making 2 Medusa costumes ( 1 granddaughter 12 & another one 7 ). And that also means TWO OF THOSE DANG SNAKE CROWNS !!! I'm somewhat of a PERFECTIONIST and love Halloween, so just sticking some worm sized snakes to a plastic headband just wouldn't do. I also fabricated a lot of the snakes myself and actually had to completely finish both crowns AFTER Halloween so next year they will really ROCK !! Since my older GD did NOT WANT lil Sis to COPY HER I made the older one All Black w All black Snakes & a Gothic / Gyspy look. The younger one wanted hers green, so her crown was Gold w black, gold & green snakes and her gown was green with Gold accents. I would probably charge someone $200 each for a crown alone b/c although they came out awesome ...... They were a TON OF WORK !!!

What kind of wire did you use?

Can't exactly remember the gauge number but it was thick, lightweight and easily bendable, not too thin.
