A word from Shirley, the 'Headless Trick-or-Treater' costume creator:

This was totally my daughters idea. She is 8yrs old. Figuring out how to do it was going to be up to me. We bought a large adult trench coat at our local thrift store for $2.00. We used a pretzel container as the jar that would hold her head. We cut the entire bottom out and half of the back. We put black duct tape around the edges so it wouldn't scratch her. She put cotton balls in the bottom and dripped fake blood all around. We left the lid off for proper air flow. To make the torso we used thick sterdy cardboard that we cut into a "T" shape. She used plastic wire ties to secure a wooden hanger to the top of the "T". We taped quilting foam to the hanger to represent the neck and shoulders. We taped a metal ruler to the back because it wanted to fall backwards. We also taped a small baby doll pillow to the bottom of the "T". She said it was comfortable to have the pillow in the small of her back. We hot glued scrap flesh colored material all over it. We secured it onto her by using an old elastic/velcro back brace. It was wide enough to cover the whole bottom of the "T". Plus fit around around her entire chest and under her arms. We stuffed the arms and gloves with plastic grocery bags. Plastic grocery bags made it light weight and bendable. We used velcro strips to keep the gloves and a few fingers on the plastic container. She just loved all the attention she got. People were taking pictures of her and with her. She told me she felt like a movie star and everyone was paparazzi. This is by far our favorite costume we have ever made. Best trick-or-treat yet.
