Galactic Centaur Costume

When I stepped into fear, I leap into faith. This ismy hardest DIY costume to date. The inspiration came from Firenze, the centaur, who protected Harry Potter and taught Divination at Hogwarts. He was such a cool character whose elegance, strength, and knowledge of the constellations earned him a spot as a teacher at Hogwarts. I built my centaur torso and legs with chicken wires, PVC pipes, and hula hoops. I made the skeletons of the back legs with hula hoops. The PVC pipes were used to create the spines of the centaur torso. I used cable ties and fish lines to connect the joints and pieces together. I sculptured chicken wires into the back legs and torso. It is quite challenging to create the back legs that would look similar to a horse and withstand the wait of the torso. I had to do a few trials and errors but the magic of the chicken wires saved the day. I used foam mousse as the hooves. To support and lift the torso, I created drum line harness with aluminum flat bars and used fish lines to connect the harness to the back of the horse. Then, I bought pink glitter gift wrap papers to cover the entire body.
My armors and helmet were made from foam papers and plastic sheets. I heated the foams and plastics to shape them and connect them with shoe strings. I mod-podge them with pink and blue/teal glitter, which fortunately protected my apartment from becoming a glittery mess. I cut old jeans and mod podge them for my front legs with pink glitter. I also painted my heels to match the hooves in the back legs. To smoothly transition the torso to my real front legs, I created a circle skirt with blue fabrics. Lastly, the bow was created with flat aluminum bar with pink and blue glitter mixed in mod podge. My best friend and worst enemies are mod podge, glitter, chicken wires, pvc pipes, hula hoops and gift wrap papers. I thoroughly enjoyed this challenging DIY costume and I couldn't ask for a better costume to show off my creativity and re-live my childhood imagination!
