This homemade costume for girls entered our 2013 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Courtney, the 'Cruella DeVil' costume creator:

This is my five year old daughter. She chose to be Cruella all on her own. She said "mama, I want to be the lady from the movie with the crazy hair, the hat with the veil and the fake smoke. " So I said okay! I bought most of my supplies at Joanns and a local fabric store. I made her coat with no pattern, just an idea in my head. I already had the awesome headband and I ordered her wig from Amazon. I have a make up artist friend who did her make up for me. All these poses she's doing were her idea, she just loved it so much she went right into character! All in all I spent about $50 on the whole thing. Totally worth every penny!

Hi! I realize this post is very old (2013). Before I even go any further, are you still around for comment?

I am!

Wow! Great to hear you are still around! I had every intention on my daughter being Cruela De Vil last year. I have the wig, gloves, dalmation dog and I attempted to make a cape with sleeves (I purchased material on line at Etsy and I bought fur trim similar to your photo. Needless to say, didn't work out. I'm not a costume maker. But I really LOVE your material for the cape. Can you tell me where you got it. And where did you get that cigarette holder, it's so cute!
I do have someone who can make the costume for me this time, a professional!

Hi! I got the fur and the red satin lining at Joanns. Also the black fur trim there too. I made a basic circle shaped cape and cut slits for her arms. I found the cig holder at spirit. Good luck!

So you just cut the circle in a straight line from top to bottom for the opening then? Did you sew or glue the lining to the fur and the fur trim? Although, last year Joanns didn't have that fur material. Thanks

I sewed them, not very well lol but you couldn't really tell. I did some searching and they have some nice Dalmatian print for a good price on Amazon. Maybe that's a good place to start! You can look me up on FB if you need more help finding stuff! I'd be happy to help.
