Goomba Costume

The humble Goomba is probably the most recognizable Super Mario villain because he is so plentiful and so easily defeated. I like to pick costumes that you can't necessarily buy but are also something nostalgic and awesome. Enter the Goomba. The Goomba costume in 3D is next to impossible to make (and have it still look like a Goomba) so my version is a bit more 2D (which doubles as an homage to original Mario). It's cardboard boxes glued together, with fabric glued to it, some stuffing for a bit of depth, a felt face glued to that and a mouth drawn on with marker (veeeerrry carefully). The fabric and felt cost about $7 and everything else was already in the house. When doesn't a big pile of old boxes come in handy, really? The costume was a huge hit on Halloween. A child dressed as Mario appropriately threatened to jump on me and almost every adult said "OHHH!" and a subset of that added "GOOMBA!" He may not be a hero every day but Goomba really stole the show this year. Happy Halloween!
