A word from Amy, the 'ET Phone Home' costume creator:
My 9-year-old son is Elliott, my 3-year-old daughter is Gertie, and our 11-month baby girl is ET, glowing heart and all. I had to take her photo separately to capture the glowing heart. I apologize for the low-quality image of ET, but it was the best we could do with an iPhone and low lighting to capture the glow.
We moved from Hawaii to Colorado for the Air Force just two weeks before Halloween, so I had to keep our costumes simple. Knowing from childhood experience that it always snows on Halloween in Colorado, I wanted to think of a costume that you could wear without having to cover with a coat. Inspired by my favorite candy, Reese's pieces, I decided to go with ET since I knew it was ll long-sleeved or blankets. Plus, we already had the white hooded towel for our baby.
For Elliott, we got the red sweatshirt and basket at thrift stores and jury rigged them to a balance bike. For Gertie, the shirt was a thrift store find as well and the rest we owned, aside from the trademark "big yarn" for the pigtails. And baby ET has glow sticks around her neck to suffice for the glowing heart, and a bag of Reese's pieces, of course. And P.S. it didn't snow for once!
