This homemade costume for women entered our 2013 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Gabby, the 'Florentine Gown' costume creator:

I was inspired by the paintings of Bronzino and Caravaggio. I love researching and recreating historical clothing, but this was my first foray into the Italian Renaissance. I drafted the bodice and camicia (undress) from tutorials I found online. The outfit consists of the dress, the camicia, and a petticoat. Though I used many different materials to achieve the look of the period, most of these came from my stash; I only paid about $25 for this entire creation. It is almost entirely handsewn with period-accurate techniques and took almost 5 months to complete. I love the mix and depth of the colors!
