A word from Jessie, the 'The Royal Christening of Prince George' costume creator:

As soon as the official christening photos were released I knew it would make a perfect costume for my family since, we too, just had a baby boy. I also realized that as a mother of three boys, this would be my one and only chance to put one of my children in a lovely dress and have it be acceptable. Pictured is me (Kate Middleton), my husband (Prince William), and our son (Prince George). Since these photos came out a week before Halloween there was no messing about! I had to round up our costumes FAST.

My husband wore a suit he already had, and a tie, identical to Prince William's, I found for $3.89. I had my mom make my son's "christening gown." She went to the fabric store and found some lace with a scalloped edge and a simple gown pattern. She added lace to the sleeves and around the neck to make it extra frilly. For my costume I found a dress and jacket on clearance that was similar to Kate's. For the hat I took an oval lid off of a cardboard box and hot glued ivory felt to it. Then I took an ivory colored artificial flower, cut the stem off, and hot glued it to the side of the lid. I accented it with a couple of loops of ivory tulle. For the next three days I kept a piece of tulle tightly tied around the lid/hat to give it a curved/fitted shape. I sprayed my hair brown with temporary hair coloring and pinned the hat on with bobby pins. I finished off my costume with a replica blue sapphire ring and a pair of nude pumps.

We did our best with what we had to imitate the official photo. Since I didn't have a couch from the 1700's on hand, I drug a bench from our bedroom in front of the computer room window. The royal photographer ended up having to be my 7 year old son.

In all it probably cost us around $150. Yikes! But hey, we're talking about royalty here! We had a jolly good time as a family getting dressed up and taking pictures. The final result was totally worth it!
