A word from Alfredo, the 'Peacocks' costume creator:

Hi my name is Alfredo and I am dressed as the traditional colored peacock and my partner, Andres, is dressed as a white peacock. In my mind, an awesome costume is one that's not easily fit through a doorway. The bigger the better!!! While watching the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, I recall during 2007 when Heidi Klum walked out on stage and pulled a string which dropped her wings down into a giant snowflake. I wanted a costume to do the same, something to open up and really pop! It didn't take me long to think of a peacock and rather than pulling a string to lower my feathers, I would just let gravity do it for me. I purchased all the feathers online at saveoncrafts and purchased 500 feathers total. The belts are recycled weightlifting belts and the "skeleton" of the tail is made of random hardware parts from Home Depot. Initially I just bought a bunch of things that looked like the shapes I wanted to use and ended up with pieces from flooring, lumber metal plates, screws, washers, and pieces I don't even know found down the aisle with locks and chains. The feathers were threaded with fishing line multiple times for reinforcement and made of multiple layers. The masks were purchased at a 99 cent store and I painted, glittered, and embellished them myself. The peacock eyes across our torsos are made from sequins of 3 different sizes and applied with eyelash glue. I applied our face makeup and added a glitter mask underneath just incase we got tired of our masks. I also sewed our loin clothes and threaded the front and back together with a metal chain just to not feel completely exposed in our leggings.
