A word from Laura, the 'The Book of Life Joaquin' costume creator:

My son is wearing a Joaquin costume from the new movie, The Book of Life. This costume was a fun and easy project. I made it out of cardboard, paint, cardstock, and lot of glue. I borrowed a mariachi hat and made the cape out of satin fabric. The only item purchased were his white bottoms.

My son's birthday party is coming up and he want to dress as Manolo Sanchez from the book of life movie.
But honestly I don't know where to find a costume.
Will u help me.?

Hi. We have looked everywhere for any type of merchandise and have been unsuccessful. Your best bet is attempting to make one. There is one particular Manolo costume that I have seen on instagram @mart712in that maybe you can get ideas from. You can also buy a regular mariachi outfit from your local party/costume store and add details. Best of luck

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS! So perfect. We only saw the movie this year and it was a huge hit. My daughter wants to be "la muerte" and my son "Joaquin". Needless to say, you can't find ANYTHING from the film anywhere. So we have to get creative. Do you have a "step by step" or tutorial on how you achieve this costume? Specially the boots and the cuffs.
I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi Karina...the entire costume is made of cardboard. The cuffs are made of the little 4x4 boxes used to ship things...found at ups. Just add two round holes small enough for his arms on both sides, paint and add detail. All of the gold embellishments are made out of gold glitter sticky paper found at Michaels (just free hand some medals and stars).
The boots were tricky and if I could do it again I would just buy some black costume boots. There are a few pinterest posts on how to make a boot. Hope some of this helps. Best of luck!!

Hello I love the costume, you did a awesome job. Im currently working on my son's costume. It is harder then it looks, I tried to make the boxes for the arms but I'm going to use your idea and go buy the 4x4 boxes at ups.. Thanks..I have a few questions first how did you make the box for the body? Which size box did you use? And the ammo belt what material did you use?
