This homemade costume for boys entered our 2014 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Megan, the 'Lego Ninjago Jay & Zane' costume creator:

My sons (Wells "Jay", 7 & Owen "Zane", 6) hoped to be Lego Ninjago characters for Halloween. Luckily, they have a crafty Mama. And, so began the creation of their costumes. These are completely DIY (I honestly didn't know how to "do" any of this). I used my imagination & creativity & worked on these between other projects (I'm an artist) & our normal life. Here's a rundown of supplies/how these were created: each character is made out of 2 Adult XL Sweatshirts (what you see as blue & white), a Cheese Balls container (heads), pieces from a Styrofoam Cooler (shaped part of heads & legs), Window Screen (eyes), Cardboard (body & swords), Spray Adhesive (every inch of these costumes!), Felt (chest & swords), Packing Tape (body & swords), Drink Koozies (hands) & T-Shirts (covering Koosies - hands). I used a sewing machine to make the pants (out of sweatshirt scraps) & used elastic to hold the costumes over their shoes. The swords are made of old boxes (cut & angled to size), packing material (stuffed inside), covered in white felt & spray painted in metallic gold. I finished these, tonight & as soon as that was announced - squeals started & costumes where on, followed by standing in front of the mirror (admiring themselves & chopping Ninja moves while at it) & finally - the pictures you see here. I'm one excited Mama - HAPPY, to see my boys SO over the moon!

The little boys in these costumes call me "Mama"! I'm beyond excited for them & they cannot stop talking about their costumes! In their eyes: I believe the jackpot has been hit, with these!

These costumes are amazing. My little guys face lit up when he saw them. Would you consider selling them?

If not, any additional tips on how to make the heads? You mention styrofoam and cheese balls container. Is it breathable? Were they comfortable inside plastic/styrofoam?

Amazing job!
