A word from Carrie, the 'Oogie Boogie' costume creator:

My husband is wearing this costume. I have been obsessed with making an oogie boogie costume since I realized the one that is commercially available I dont care for. Seemed fairly simple, a big burlap sack and some black eyes. Essentially, thats what it is, but there is a ton of finesse that went into it. Used burlap, black yarn, embroidery thread (color of burlap), a piece of remnant black fabric, wire, napkins, plastic bags and Glowz glow in the dark spray paint. I had no pattern, so I just had my husband lay down on the fabric when I cut it. I stitched all the edges roughly and unevenly with yarn. I did some darting and cinching at the top and bottom to "fit" it to him. The mask was made the same way, wrapped it around his head and cut. Leave a bunch at the top for the peak of course. Stitched it together and then made did some cinching until it fit and looked just right. That took seemingly forever!!!! Be sure to make the point! Stuff the point with plastic bags. For the mouth, wire wrapped with paper towels. Stitch it with black yarn. Make it a flexible enough wire so you can shape the mouth later. Sewed black fabric inside mouth. Sharpie the eyes black. Tape eyes and pin mouth closed and spray it with the glow spray paint (many cans). Then put it on and scare the heck out of your two poodles!

Awesome! How tall is your husband and How many cans of the glow spray did you end up using?

Hey, my husband is 5'6. But really, it doesnt matter much. I had him just lay down on a piece of burlap and i just cut the body piece that way. The arms came out pretty long, but I was afraid of them beong too short. Pretty forgiving costume, the more frumpy the better! :-)

This is true! How many cans of paint did you go through?

Around 6 or 7. But it could have used even more to really get a full coat on both face & body.
