A word from Sandra, the 'Pinocchio and Geppetto' costume creator:

Halloween is our favorite time of year. We met at a Halloween party 8 years ago. Ever since then we have been celebrating...We are 68 years old now, and still do this every year.. I came up with the thought of Pinocchio because my boyfriend is so tall and I am so short and thought it would be great for us…
I visualized the costumes and looked at my grand children’s Pinocchio book for ideas. Here is how I created it.

I took a pair of shorts I bought for $3.95 at a thrift store. I had, a little green jacket and decorated both of them, with an old belt buckle and ribbon that I had. Bought some sparkle stuff at Michaels craft store and pasted it on to give a little shimmer to the shoes.. I took black permanent marker and outlined my stockings where my knee was and drew lines like I had wooden legs with black dots down the leg for the pins so it looked like legs of wood... I had blue sneakers and made them look like shoes Pinocchio wore with an old pair of socks that looked like something Pinocchio had on… .I wore old socks on my arms that looked doll like and white gloves…My red scarf I had for years..
I took my boyfriends hat and decorated it just like Pinocchio’s with a red feather and ribbon around the rim. I have red long hair so I bought a black wig and cut it into a boys look. ,I bought the nose $8.00 on line and matched it to my makeup. I used black eye brow pencil to make long eyelashes by my eyes.

My boyfriend’s Costume…was made the same way with clothes he had and I decorated them with ribbon for suspenders and a vest we got at a thrift store for 4.00.. He had the hat and shirt that looked very much like what Geppetto wore. We bought the mustache in a costume store for $2.95. which he shaped and cut .…I made his bow tie from felt…The strings (cord) we bought real cheap in the $1.00 store…along with the glasses We got 2 pieces of wood for free being thrown out in Home Depot and painted it and nailed together to hold the strings…
Both costumes cost so little and it was so much fun making them and playing in them year after year…
Total cost of both costumes between $25.00

Here is how I created Jiminy Cricket :
I pulled up a picture of him on the internet and printed it on my computer. I went to Office Max and had it enlarged. I pasted his front and back together on a big stick cost $1.00 I glued some glitter on him to make him shimmer. I bought 2 children’s flickering wrist band lights 1.00 each., and glued them on his hat and by his stomach so he lights up and you can see him in the dark…
Total cost to make $4.00
