This homemade costume for women entered our 2014 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Kristina, the 'Esmeralda - Fortune Teller' costume creator:

I was Esmeralda, the Fortune Teller. I originally wanted to be Zoltar from big, but decided I wanted to be the female version.

My boyfriend constructed the frame and the box that I was in. We used wood - have used cardboard in the past and I wanted something sturdy. This was heavy, but we had it on casters and it went over the top of me and my wheelchair so I could wheel with it.

I mostly used stained for the outside adding some gold accents with crown molding to break that up a little bit.

The inside is decorated with a variety of battery operated lights - a couple of white, a black light for the poster, and blinking chasing lights. We used velco to attach those to the sides and the ceiling of the costume.

The curtains are new sew curtains and hung on a wooden dowel that was drilled into the frame of the costume so it would not move.

My table is a wheelchair tray that I cut fabric to fit and then hot glued to the tray. My crystal ball is a pool or lawn light that comes on in the dark. I used double sided tape on the tarot cards and velcroed them to the table. I handed out fortune cards along with fortune cookies a fortune fish.

My costume was bought in pieces - I never want to be at a party or bar with someone else wearing the same costume so I buy it in pieces until I have what I want. The majority of my fortune teller costume is belly dancer related items.

I added different accessories to the costume from beads to fringe just to make it pop! It looked amazing all put together.
