This homemade costume for women entered our 2012 Halloween Costume Contest, and won 9th place in the Favorite Halloween Costume nomination!

A word from Lark, the 'Wind Up Doll' costume creator:

I am the one wearing the costume. I thought of this idea - I couldn't find anything like it online, so I decided to make it myself.

Picked up a old dress and petticoat from the good will.

For the functioning wind up Key: got a back brace. I went to home depot and picked up a metal spinning wheel (like the ones that are on the bottom of an office chair or movable house chair. I removed the wheel and was left with a flat metal backing and a connecter for the wheel which was able to spin. I attached that metal piece by using the holes on the flat part and sewing it to the back of my back brace. Then I picked up some foam piping from the store and shaped that into a bow in several pieces and connected them all together with shiny duck tape. Then I attached the foam Key to the spinning part on the back brace with more tape. topped it off with some mary-jane shoes, white tights, a good wig, and fun makeup. Sorry it's hard to explain the contraption I made for the key - but I hope you can kind of get the gist.

I went to a bunch of thrift stores. And then I found a pettie coat to throw underneath. That would prob be your best bet.
