This homemade costume for women entered our 2012 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Alyssa, the 'Violet Beauregarde from Willy Wonka' costume creator:
Here I am in my costume. I used a clown jumpsuit pattern that I modified to create the dress that I am wearing and just used the brightest blue jersey fabric I could find. Underneath the dress, I am wearing a sumo wrestler costume that automatically inflates and deflates.
In the back of the dress, I made a flap that stays up with a simple hook and eye to make sure that the fan in the sumo wrestler costume has air. Hidden in the sleeve of the costume is the cord for the fan and the battery pack. When I was ready to inflate, I just turned up the flap and turned the battery pack on.
Materials used:
4 yards blue jersey knit fabric
Blue thread
24" blue sport zipper
1/2" hem tape
3 gold buttons
Sumo wrestler costume.
2 blue glow sticks stuck in color to give my face a blue glow.
