A word from Patrick, the 'The Mad Hatter' costume creator:

It's Springtime in Wonderland. The tiny hats are in bloom. Yes, hats DO grow on trees in Wonderland.

ANYBODY can recreate Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter. I much prefer to see what else the Mad Hatter created in his hat shop!

To create this outfit, I seam ripped an old bathrobe, fabric glued astroturf to it, then reassembled the pieces with 6 lb. fishing line. I then covered the seams with felt (to prevent the astroturf from rubbing on my skin). I also hot glued plastic flowers along the edges.

As for the pants, I used seam-ripped scrubs pants and applied the above technique.

The hat is a construction helmet with a plastic punch bowl and dish from a party store attached. I masked off areas and spray-painted the bowl crazy colors to give it the teapot look. The dish also covers the top of the "cup", in the center of which, a 1/2 PVC tube is inserted and attached to the construction helmet. I attached a wire hanger, covered with pipe insulation for the cup's "handle".

Inserted into the top of the PVC tube are several wire hangers, at the end of which are attached tiny doll hats from eBay. The tube is covered in Easter garland, with Easter basket grass for highlights.

I spirit gummed bits of astroturf to my face for eyebrows, mustache and goatee (which looks like a tiny tree). My favorite parts are the sunglasses and gloves. White gloves look okay, but the neon yellow goes with the deep green.

I pinned the cummerbund to the pants top to prevent it from slipping upward. The entire outfit is comfortable for cooler times like Halloween or Easter. Just be careful of low ceilings! The whole outfit is 9'6".

I hope you enjoy this costume!!!!
