A word from Erika, the 'Mrs. Lovett from Sweeney Todd' costume creator:

I've always wanted to Mrs. Lovett for Halloween, but I couldn't find someone to be my Sweeney Todd. Finally, I found my boyfriend, who seemed just as excited about the idea as I was. The only problem was that I hated all the pre-packaged Mrs. Lovett costumes. So I decided to make my own. With my mom and my boyfriend's help, we went to a fabric store and got started. We bought calico beige material for her skirt and ruffles, black lace to cover the sleeves and shirt, little lace trims for the neckline, end of the sleeve, and bottom of the shirt. We also bought red mesh trim for the neckline, and black and red ribbon for the bottom of the shirt and skirt ruffles. Sadly, the original calico material I bought wasn't thick enough so we had to go to another fabric store to buy a thicker paisley printed fabric. I bought the base shirt, lace gloves, striped stockings, corsets, and boots at other various stores. The total cost was pretty pricey. By the time we were officially able to start my costume, there was only a week till my Halloween party. We sewed the skirt (which was pretty hard considering we didn't really have a sewing pattern to go off of), sewed a lace covering over the whole shirt (which had to be cut anyway), sewed various lace trimmings to the shirt, dyed the skirt, and attached the red mesh to the neckline. We managed it just in time after pulling an all-nighter the night before my Halloween party. I think it turned out pretty well. :)
