A word from Kimberly, the 'Captain Jack Caught Tinker Bell' costume creator:

This is my daughter, Jordan, who was 12 at the time. The idea came from an older costume idea where a child is "caught" by an alien. Well, on October 9th my daughter was adopted by my husband and her last name changed to Tinker and she loved Tinker Bell and so I incorporated the Tinker Bell and being caught idea into one and voila!

The Costume was very easy to make and only took a couple of hours with mostly household items and a few dollar store items.

For Captain Jack Sparrow I used a child's plastic ball (but you could use a balloon too) and affixed a picture of captain Jack's face that I printed onto a piece of 8 1/2 x 11" sticker paper. I secured a large plastic hanger to an aluminum broom handle to create "shoulders" for Jack and stuck the broom handle into a child's back-pack, taping it inside so it didn't tilt too much. I then taped the ball to the top of the handle adding a black wig, black beard/mustache, red piece of fabric for a bandanna and a pirate cap. Jordan wore a black tank and black pants and black boots and I did her hair to look like Tink's. To her front I pinned a pair of white tights stuffed with cotton to represent Tinker Bell's legs and added a tutu from the dollar store.

Once Jordan put on the back pack then she put on the neon top to hide the straps, then I put her dad's black sports coat over the hanger and adjusted it. Added some pirate accessories like the hook and a glove to hide the ends of the coat and she was done!

This costume won her first place at her school Halloween party.

Total cost was less than $15.00 and only a couple hours of time.
