A word from Melissa, the 'Bubble Girl' costume creator:

For my daughters Halloween costume I wanted something original and fun. Last year she was a can of play dough. I then fell in love with the fun childhood favorites. I came up this idea back in August. I was outside blowing bubbles with my little one watching how much fun she was having chasing bubbles around. I thought this would be perfect. I asked her and she was on board. Only request was for it to be purple. So the process then began. I got excited and was sold on the idea. The base of the costume was made of layers of poster board to create the proper look then covered it with fabric. I then used fabric paint for the label. I added some straps and balloons. You can’t tell in the picture but I put glitter on the balloons to give them a bit of a sparkle. The giant bubble wand was a last minute touch. I made it from foam board and spray paint. I bought my Martials four around $15. I always buy more than need so It could be done for less. Over all it was a hit.

Wonderful idea my daughter loves this costume, how did u attach the balloons ?

#3 comment by Melissa August 23, 2013

I tied them together and attached them very carefully with a needle and thread. So basically i sewed the part of the balloon that is tied if that makes sense. My daughter loved being bubbles. She was giggling the whole time. It was so fun to make. Good luck with it.

My daughter is 9 and I just showed her the pictures. She loves it. So we are planning on trying to make it for Halloween and for school. Wish us luck, it is super cute

Do you think instead of poster board you could use a yoga mat if not how many layers of poster board do you need to make it last through school than trick or treating

yoga mat may work. I believe I used 4 layers of boaster board from the Dollar store. THen I did 4 more or so on the top and bottom to make it look like a bottle of bubbles.

We are going for it with a group of 15 kids. Sheldon is wearing it with shoulder straps, right?

I sewed on shoulder straps but used the iridescence organza.

How did you get the bubbles print on there and what material did you use for the bubbles spoon (what you blow the bubbles out of

#12 comment by Melissa October 10, 2017

I painted the print on a white piece of fabric. Then I carefully cut it out and hot glued it to the purple fabric. The bubble blind I use foam board and then spray-painted it
