This homemade costume for pets entered our 2012 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Pamela, the 'Adventures of Alice in Wonderland' costume creator:

The theme was based on Tim Burton's movie "Alice in Wonderland". Pamela K. is Mama Hatter... Larry J. is Knave of Hearts and our three Chihuahua "fur kid family" is Miss Bailey (daughter) as Alice... Duchess (mom) as Red Queen and Mr. McKenzie (dad) as Mad Hatter. Surprisingly, the "kids" have tolerated wearing these complicated costumes for extended periods of time, i.e. the Red Queen's costume has a five layer skirt, petticoats, pantaloons, fur trimmed cape, necklaces, etc. They all had wigs and head gear, which they kept on. Amazingly, I have not had one incident of rebellion (oh yes, they have been generously rewarded with treats).

The carriage also contained a "multi-color glowing" Cheshire Cat, Blue Caterpillar and the White Rabbit complete with Tea Party, these are not readily seen in photo. Also, it was completely lit with LED lights. Not an easy task to combine all of these features in and on the carriage while accommodating the girls on board.

It was a challenge, from design to execution, but I thoroughly enjoyed the creative process. I had a great time and I am very pleased with how it turned out! I might add that it takes 90 min to get everyone into costume and set up the carriage and turn on lights, etc. All costumes, including the carriage decor was designed, created and handmade by Pamela Kay, Kirkland, WA.

A list of materials, sources, "instructions" available upon request. Cost?? No commercial patterns were used in this project.
