Hello Kitty Costume

Hello Kitty

Costume type:  Costumes for Adults
Categories:Halloween Costumes, Cartoon Costumes

This homemade costume for adults entered our 2011 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Vanessa, the 'Hello Kitty' costume creator:

I made this costume as a last minute idea for a family Halloween party. I am wearing the costume. I bought a yard of red felt for the dress, a yard of white fleece for the legs and hands, a white turtle neck, and white and black sheets of poster board for the head.

For the head i used 2 sheets of poster board and cut out the head shape and stapled both sides, leaving the bottom flaps unattached so i could put my head inside. out line the white poster board head with black marker and cut out a red bow and glued that to one of the ears.

Its a very simple to make costume, but is a bit time consuming. I had a lot of fun in this costume and the kids loved it!

Love it !!! Awesome costume and great idea. I also love that it's so unique - you don't see very many home made, hand crafted costumes these days....A job well done

How did you see? I can't tell what you did with the eye's to be able to see through. I do love your costume though, please get back to me. I want to make this... Please.
P.S. To the above commenter. Really cool name. I've never met another Evangelina before. :)

Hi there, Color Is a Gift! Glad you liked the costume! Since the head was so large I actually poked lots of tiny holes (with a sewing needle) on the nose part. It was kind of hard to see but it was manageable. I was recommended to also use pantyhose, but didn't choose to go that route. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Candleladyheidi! I used a felt fabric from a local fabric store. It worked really well because it held its own shape which really made it look cartoony. Since the material was so thick, I didn't sew it, I ended up using bonding tape which you use with an Iron. Also for the buttons I used yelllow posterboard paper and outlined it with black marker. Good luck!

I love this costume. I am doing something similar for my 5 year old daughter. I am just wondering what did you do for your eyes. Could you see? I created a hello kitty face on a white poster board, just seems like if I give her eyes that she can see what she is doing, it will throw off the look. However, being on 5 see needs to see where she is going.

on comment #9 i replied to make holes with a sewing needle.. but another good idea is to put yellow see-through cloth for the nose in that area (like colored tights or pantyhose) if not, another good idea is to use old sunglass lenses for the black part of the eyes and she can use one of those to look out of. You would just have to cut out the shape of the eye and put the sunglass lense from the back and either tape it or super glue it.
