A word from Veronica, the 'Shimmer and Shine' costume creator:

My girls wanted to dress up this year as "Shimmer and Shine"...I looked at the costumes online and at costume stores but they didn't look like the characters. Shimmer and Shine characters wear several accessories and have a lot of little details. So I decided to do them myself... I found a the purple harem Aladdin pants, a purple velour top, and a really plain turquoise genie outfit at the Goodwill for total of $8. I had to add a lot of gold sequins and gold trim I found at The Dollar Store in the xmas section. I made the pearl headpiece with pearls and string I found at Joann Craft Store for $3. For the bracelets I hot glued, gold wide ribbon and green and pink jewels I found all at The Dollar Store. I bought sheer fabric in purple and pink and hot glued Onto the Shine costume for sleeves and pants. I had an old blue wig and I found a pink wig at Walmart for $5. In a big metal bowl I mixed water with school white glue really well. I dipped each wig in it. I got two medium size teddy bears and put wet wigs over the body of the Bears. That way the wigs dry in a curvy shape for 24hrs. I added $2 color spray onto their hair from Walmart. Their shoes I made myself from old flats and gold and shinny purple duct tape I found at The Dollar Store. I crumbled newspaper in the front part of the shoe to make it look pointy and bigger.
I was very happy with the way it turned out! Nothing like the costumes at the store and I only spent between $25-$30...
