This homemade costume for girls entered our 2012 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Annjela, the 'Avatar Korra' costume creator:

My name is Annjela Saet, I am 16 years old and this is my very first 100% homemade costume!
It's of Avatar Korra from the Nickelodeon television series "The Legend of Korra", sequel to "Avatar: The Last Airbender". I decided to make this costume out of my pure adoration for the show's main character. I always loved her incredible determination, ability to fight, and beautiful appearance. She inspired me to be the best that I can be and always fight for the things you care about.

How the costume was made:

Hair pieces: The hair ornaments were made out of PVC pipe, which was sanded, painted bright blue, and white craft foam glued to the edges. My natural hair (not a wig) was then tied up accordingly using rubber bands, then the hair pieces were slipped on and stayed perfectly in place!

Shirt: This was the most difficult and last piece that was made for this costume. I used my sleevless tennis uniform shirt as a template. An XXL light blue lycra running shirt was cut up into the appropriate shape. I cut off one of the sleeves from the lycra shirt, then sewed it on as the collar. White fleece was hot glued on the edges of the shirt.

Fur Sash: I used light brown fleece, cut it out into a large triangle, then added fur strips to the edges. A tie around waist belt from a Cinderella bathrobe was then used for the ends.

Boots: The brown fleece and etra fur leftover from the sash was glued onto a pair of boots I bought from Goodwill.

Pants: The pants are just navy blue nurse scrubs I also bought from goodwill

Arm bands: The arm bands were stretchy navy blue material that was wrapped around my wrists fit to measure, then white elastic bands were sewn on to the edges so that they could stay.

And that's how it was made! Thank you so much and I hope you enjoy the pictures, which were taken by my friend Andy!

I think it was great that you made the Korra costume yourself. Very inventive and it looks so professional. Better than the one they are selling on the cosplay website.

Great Job!

Thanks for sharing how you made it too. I may be able to throw something together for my 5 year old with your helpful guidance!
You definitely have a talent for this. It's better than anything else I have seen yet.
