A word from Jennifer, the 'Arkham Asylum Scarecrow' costume creator:

This years halloween costume for my 9 year old son is inspired by the Scarecrow from Batman Arkham Asylum. I make his costumes every year and each year I try to use a new material that I have never used before in the past. The material I choose to use was EVA foam. I absolutely loved working with this medium. It’s so easy to work with! I had to watch plenty of tutorials to learn about EVA for costume construction. Their was hardly any fear of messing up the construction since EVA foam is very forgiving, easy to cut, shape and glue together. For most of the costume I used the foam for example to make the vest, arm pieces, leg brace, and belt. I used faux leather to sew the jacket and pants. For the mask I used Crayola molding clay, acrylic paint for distressing, burlap to stamp the “scarecrow” fabric pattern on to the clay, and modge podge to seal the mask. A few new tools that where a must to pick up for EVA foam costume construction where a heat gun, a Dremel and LED light diodes. These tools where great for heating the foam to bend and manipulate in to different shapes and the dermal to sand rough edges of the foam and to also, cut pieces of the plastic masked I used as a base for the scarecrow face and plastic bottels. The LED diodes and coin batteries where used to light certain parts of the costume. I always like to include an extra accessory to the costumes I make my son. So I put to gather a staff with a Batman mask. Next, on my list was to choose which version on the scarecrow my son wanted to be since there are several. We decided on the version from the video game. Here is the list of supplies and materials in order of usage.
