This homemade costume for kids entered our 2011 Halloween Costume Contest, and won a special prize in the Most Creative Costume nomination!
Another of the daughters decided a few days before Halloween that she wanted to dress up. So in sticking with the "Insect" theme, I made her a Red Moth.
The construction of the costume was very similar to every other costume I made (that had wings) except that there was just a strip of fabric tied around the neck of the moth to make the straps. (I ran out of heavier board materials :( ) If you have questions as to how to make one, see the instruction illustrations for the "Trashy" Butterfly costume I made, (it's here on the site).
To decorate it, I spray painted the body and wings red, and covered the wings with glitter. I sprayed hairspray on top of the glitter (so it didn't all come off all over)
