A word from Shannon, the 'Almond Joy and Mounds Candy Bars' costume creator:

The kids in the costumes are my 15 month old boy-girl twins, Lucy & Oliver. Another twin-mom I know who has identical girl twins, gave me this idea for boy-girl twins. I thought it was perfect; cute and age appropriate, but also loved the adult humor that it incorporated on the back of the costumes. I searched everyone online for this costume and couldn't find it. The only thing I found was infant onesies on Etsy that wouldn't work for my kids. So I set out to make them myself! I am a busy mom of three, but have always loved crafting and figured - I could do this myself!

I used felt, felt glue, Microsoft Word to print the letters, scissors to cut them out first on paper, then used the paper cut-outs to cut out the felt letters. I also hand-stitched with red and blue string. Between three kids 3 and under, a full time job and heavy travel schedule, my time was limited so I started making the costumes about two months in advance and just worked in small steps. Cut out letters for "Almond Joy" one day, "Mounds" the next, cut and sew one panel, etc. I mostly worked in the evenings and during weekend nap time, because anytime the kids were awake and saw me working on these, they wanted to 'help'!

This was a labor of love. I am actually tearing up while I write this! As a full-time working mom with a demanding schedule, I often feel conflicted about working and being away from my three precious children for so much of the time. I sometimes feel guilty that someone else (a nanny) is "raising" them. So it is small but special things- such as making these costumes- that I show my kids how much I adore them and think about them always, even when I am not with them. Even though Lucy and Ollie are too young to even know that they were wearing costumes (!) - I hope they look back at these pictures one day and can feel the love from their Mom 🙂
